Hi Y'all, as some of you know I just moved into my first college apartment! Like most student housing space is limited and the rooms are pretty small, so as someone with quite an extensive collection of clothing, shoes, purses, makeup, and other things I had to plan on finding creative ways to organize my closet, as well as my bathroom and kitchen. So today I'm sharing items I brought with me to help the organizational process, as well as the items I wish I had bought ahead of time!
1. Felt Hangers
This might seem like a given, "hangers for the closet, duh!" but I love these ones in particular, felt hangers help prevent your clothes from slipping off and just look so much nicer than plastic ones! If you're wondering why I called them a "storage essential" it's because of how thin they are, it might not seem like it's a huge deal but when you have tons of clothes to pack into your closet is makes a world of difference!
2. Hanging Shoe Organizer
This shoe organizer totally saved my life living in a dorm last year. If you ask anyone who has seen how many shoes I own they will probably tell you I have a problem, I would tell you there are worse things I could spend my money on. Anyways this shoe organizer holds 10 pairs of shoes, and maybe more, I could usually fit 2 pairs of sandals in one slot, and it has pockets on the side that can hold jewelry, wallets, socks and any other small items you want to keep track of.
3. Sock/Underwear/Bra Drawer Organizer
This is one I wish I had planned to bring with me, I've already ordered it and am excitedly waiting for its arrival. The drawers you keep your socks, undies, bras, and swimsuits in can get disorganized really fast. It's super helpful to have an insert to just slide into the drawer and be able to put pairs of socks or undies into the individual pockets instead of just floating around in a pile inside the drawer, it also has specific pockets for bras so the cups don't get bent and messed up.
4. Metal Baskets
I grabbed some similar to these at HomeGoods so I definitely recommend checking there for cute storage bins before buying any from online because they are typically cheaper, and you definitely know what you're getting rather than ordering something and it being the wrong size for your needs, but I did make sure to link ones with pretty good reviews incase you like these! I have 3 of these on the shelves in my closet, one that I put my smaller purses in, one that I put my belts in, and one that my hats go in, it makes it look so much less cluttered than just having them thrown on the shelves. These are also great for under the sink organization in the bathroom and kitchen as well as kitchen cabinet storage to put all your plastic container and tupperware in!
5. Laundry Basket with Lid and Removable Bag
This is another item I picked up at HomeGoods, for about half the price, so again I definitely recommend checking there or at T.J. Maxx or Marshalls before buying any online because they are much cheaper at stores like that rather than online. These types of laundry baskets are so useful, I love that it has a lid, so that my dirty laundry isn't on display if I have guests over. The removable bag is much more convenient for carrying laundry to the washing machine, personally my washing machine is on the second floor of our apartment so it makes it easier to carry up the stairs, but is also so useful for people who don't have their washers/dryers in unit!
6. Drawer Organizers
Another item I wished I had planned ahead to bring but didn't and now am waiting to order them. These are so great because you can use them in the bathroom to organize toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, and other items in one drawer, then use more in another for organizing makeup, and there also great for kitchen drawers as utensil organizers. I love that you can order them in a multi-pack or specific sizes, it's totally up to you and your preferences and needs when it comes to drawer storage.
7. Hair Styling Tools Organizer
I'm definitely a girl who can't live without my hair styling tools, I pretty much always blow dry my hair after washing it to avoid it becoming a crazy half-curly half-straight mess, I also straighten or curl it pretty often so having them easily accessible and not all tangled up just thrown in the under-the-sink cabinet is important. This little cabinet door hanger is such a life saver, and a space saver, because my blower dryer, straightener, and curling iron are all in this organizer I have more room in the cabinet for other items!
8. Cube Organizer
I actually had to run out and go buy this cube organizer the day I moved in! My room wasn't set up the way I expected and put a dent in how I planned on decorating and organizing my room. So I ran to Target to get this, it acts as my TV stand as well as tons of extra storage without taking up too much room.
9. Cube Storage Bins
I got these storage bins to go inside of the cube organizer, they matched my rooms color scheme and they come in 9 colors so they can go with any theme! I love them because they are so much cheaper than buying them individually from anywhere and that way even if the things you're putting in them don't look cute in your room they will be hidden inside.
10. Coffee Mug Hanger
If you're anything like me, and you have a ridiculous collection of coffee mugs, then you understand the struggle of your mugs taking up all the space in your cabinets, so I ordered these as soon as I moved in hoping they would give me more room for some other things on my shelves. These definitely help save space inside the cabinets, but you definitely have to use more caution to make sure you don't accidentally knock your mugs down when in the kitchen.
Thats all I have for now I'll continue to update this post if I find anymore things that save my life with storage.
